Notre Dame Students at Wezesha Vocational College, Namibia

This year, the college is taking significant steps toward campus development, focusing on constructing a brick manufacturing facility, a small administrative office, and a storage facility. This project offers students invaluable hands-on experience, equipping them with the skills to manage and establish a thriving institution.

Students will contribute to assisting the Wezesha team with the planning, and supervising of the construction project under the general supervision of professionals. They will also work in program monitoring and evaluation of the training interventions as well as participate in assisting the team with conducting workshops in Creative Arts, and engaging in community outreach activities.

Students will work for five days a week, while on Saturday and Sunday they tour around interesting sites around the country or city.

Meet the Students

Tyler

Tyler is a Mechanical Engineering major from Seattle, Washington studying at the University of Notre Dame. He is a Frazier Thompson Scholar and on campus he enjoys working on prosthetics with Enable ND. In his free time, he enjoys producing music and he has been in two bands as a guitarist. Outside of engineering and music, he has an interest in business. He went to two international DECA competitions, placing top 4 in the competition, and he is interested in pursuing an engineering corporate practice minor. He looks forward to working with Wezesha Vocational College During his stay in Namibia (June to July 2025).

Nickolas Hulgrave

Nickolas Hulgrave is currently studying finance at the school of business. He enjoys watching football and baseball, and always root for teams from Detroit. In his free time he enjoys playing spike ball on the quad outside his dorm. He was the valedictorian of his high school as well as the vice president of the student body. At Notre Dame he was elected to be the representative for all the freshman in his dorm. After college he wishes to pursue a career in investment banking. He looks forward to working with Wezesha Vocational College During his stay in Namibia (June to July 2025).

Scott

Scott is currently studying Economics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Notre Dame. His hobbies include playing the violin, hiking, and skiing. One of his favorite interests is playing poker and studying the game theory and statistics behind those types of gambling games. Some of his achievements include being top 100 in the US for speech and debate and also writing a research paper on the applications of machine learning in the stock market. He continues to be outspoken on various political issues and he is currently working on various coding projects like a sports betting bot. He also has an internship through Notre Dame university to develop an AI for authoring a book. He looks forward to working with Wezesha Vocational College During his stay in Namibia (June to July 2025).

Andrew

Andrew is a rising sophomore at the University of Notre Dame studying Finance and Applied Mathematics. On campus, Andrew is actively involved in the Investment Club and Student International Business Council. Originally from Long Island, New York, Andrew likes to fish and hike in his free time, as well as spend time with his family and dog at the beach. This summer he looks forward to exploring Namibia and learning more about the country’s beautiful culture and people. He looks forward to working with Wezesha Vocational College During his stay in Namibia (June to July 2025).

I found the training to be short, which is both good and bad. It's good in that people don't have time to keep on coming back and it's bad in that we rushed into information we good learned from. I enjoyed the open platform given for addition and questions. The engagement and networking were really awesome. The presentation was well delivered. I would recommend organizations, for the leaders to come learn the art of managing and working with people.

Interesting and the training in fact created a zeal for me to persue more leadership training or seminars. When and how to use the different types of leadership, this meant that as a leader we need to implore all styles to suit the situation. ⁠I would recommend it to organisations mostly students leadership
